Water is fundamental to human life, making up roughly 60% of the adult human body and playing a vital role in nearly every physiological process.
Water Supply & Treatment
Water transports essential nutrients and oxygen through the bloodstream, helps regulate body temperature, and supports digestion by helping break down food and move it through the gastrointestinal tract. It also cushions organs and lubricates joints, enabling smooth movement.
Because water is continuously lost through breathing, sweating, and urination, the body requires a steady intake of fluids to maintain proper balance. While wellness trends often promote drinking water immediately after waking—claiming that it can “detoxify” the body or boost metabolism—scientific evidence does not show that these benefits depend on the time of day. What matters most is maintaining adequate hydration throughout the day.
After a full night’s sleep, the body may become mildly dehydrated because of several hours without fluid intake. Drinking a glass of water in the morning can help restore fluid balance, improve alertness, and provide a refreshing start to the day. Some people may feel more energized after drinking water, although this can also be influenced by the psychological benefit of starting the day with a healthy habit.
