Bleach Stains on Your Clothes? No Need to Throw Them Away: Here’s a Solution

2. Prepare your work area

Work in a well-ventilated area, such as near an open window. Lay the garment flat on a clean towel.

3. Measure the alcohol

Pour 5 ml of clear alcohol into a small container — approximately 1 teaspoon.

Use a cotton ball or cotton swab for application.

4. Apply carefully

Soak the cotton ball with 2–3 ml of alcohol. It should be damp, not dripping.

Gently dab the discolored area for 30–60 seconds without rubbing.

5. Allow it to sit

Leave the alcohol on the area for 2 minutes. Then immediately rinse the treated area with clean water for 1 minute.

6. Repeat only if necessary

If the discoloration appears lighter but is still noticeable, you can repeat the process once, using another 2–3 ml of alcohol.

7. Wash the garment

Wash the garment immediately in the washing machine, using your usual detergent and the temperature indicated on the care label.

Important Things to Remember

  • Never mix bleach and alcohol. Thoroughly rinse the garment before applying any alcohol.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Do not use this method on wool, silk, viscose, or other delicate fabrics.
  • Do not exceed 10 ml of alcohol per garment.
  • This method will not restore the original color. At best, it may make the discoloration less noticeable, particularly on dark fabrics.
  • Always test any treatment on a small, inconspicuous area first when possible.

If the discoloration is extensive or the garment is valuable, fabric dyeing or professional textile treatment may be a better option.
